Traffic changes on Illawarra Road
01 April 2019
Road users will experience changes on Illawarra Road near Perth over the coming months, as part of the Perth Link Roads project.
Drivers turning on to Illawarra Road will experience regular, short delays while traffic is stopped to allow trucks to cross Illawarra Road.
Traffic will be stopped for one minute every four minutes, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday - Friday from 29 March until mid-May. There will be a break over the Easter period from 19 – 25 April, but reduced speed limits will be in place.
The closures will be in place during the V8 Supercars event at Symmonds Plains, but the traffic situation will be carefully monitored by the contractor, and modified as required.
We understand that delays can be frustrating, and thank you for your patience during these necessary works. Please approach the area with caution, and follow the directions of traffic controllers.
From Tuesday 2 April there will be traffic diversions in place on Illawarra Road.
From 2 April until early May, traffic will be diverted to a temporary side detour with a reduced speed limit while we construct the longer term detour.
From early May traffic will be transferred to the longer term detour through a newly constructed section of the project site.
The detour will be two lanes, one in either direction. Drivers will get a close view of two new bridges, constructed as part of the Perth Link Road Project, as they drive underneath the new structures.
There will be only minor impacts to road users during the detours, but we ask that all road users approach the area with caution, pay attention to signage and follow the directions of traffic controllers.
The Perth Link Roads project is the single biggest project in the Midland Highway 10 Year Action Plan and is the final link in a dual carriageway (two lanes in each direction) along the Midland Highway, from Launceston to the south of Perth, Tasmania. The project is due to be finished in 2021.
