This project will improve safety between Jericho to south of York Plains. Works will include road widening, extending sealed shoulders, additional overtaking lanes, and installing flexible safety barriers. The safety improvements will reduce the risk of head-on and loss of control crashes and achieve a 3 star AusRAP safety rating for the Midland Highway.
Following recent community consultation, community feedback has been considered during the detailed design phase of the Midland Highway 10 Year Action Plan – Final Stages .
The next step is that geotechnical investigations, including digging of test pits, will be carried out for approximately one week at both locations between 18 October and 5 November 2021
The works will be confined to digging test pits in the road shoulder and verge, within the Road Reserve corridor. It is expected there will be no impacts to the access of adjacent properties. The test pits will be backfilled with excavated material following the investigations and environmental disturbance zones from the design documentation will be considered when selecting the test pit sites.
To ensure the safety of the travelling public and workers, traffic will be slowed down to 40 km/h next to test pit locations.
